Abstract: On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the publication of The Administrative State (1948), this paper reviews and evaluates the importance of Dwight Waldow's book. First, this paper offers a biographical account of Dwight Waldo as a way of placing Waldo's academic contributions in a larger personal context; Then, this paper studies the influence of the Administrative State on the field of public administration in the context of the 1930s and 1940s. Then, chapter by chapter, this paper reviews The Administrative State and its long contribution to the field of public administration. Finally, the article makes a brief evaluation of Waldow's subsequent influence.
