Abstract: There are great differences in the activity, participation and influence of government microblogs in different regions. Why are they so different? This paper proposes the key factors affecting the performance of government microblogs from the two aspects of the supply and demand of government microblogs, and makes an empirical analysis based on the multi-source data of prefecture-level cities in China. The results show that the performance of government microblog is mainly affected by supply-side factors, such as government size, financial health status and city level. Relatively speaking, the influence of demand-side variables on the performance of government microblog is weak, and only the usage rate of mobile Internet has a positive correlation with it. The theoretical implications and policy implications of these findings are discussed, and future research directions are discussed.
